What is a Trend Predictor?

A Trend Predictor is someone who collects information, inspirational images and facts to predict the upcoming fashion for the next season. They look at past trends and collect research and data to what could possibly take over in the next year.

Job Role

Trend Forecaster's often travel to different cities to gather research and try to then predict trends from reports. They look at street fashion, architecture and sometimes just random things from the streets such as things in markets or shops. They see which stores are trending before they travel to a city and also do countless amounts of research on where they should gather ideas from when they arrive.

Trend Prediction and Fashion Forecasting

Trend Prediction is when the fashion forecast is based on data from past trends. It uses time series data, which is data where the value is known over different points in time. This data is usually plotted on a graph, the graph showing the time, like the year, and the information you are trying to predict, such as sales amounts or number of people. .

Fashion Forecasting focuses on upcoming trends that are recognized world wide. A fashion forecaster predicts the colour, fabrics, textures, materials, prints, graphics, beauty, accessories, footwear, street style, and other styles that are presents on the runway by couture designers and in the stores for the upcoming seasons.

Brand Identity

Brand Identity is when a brand shows off there brand by logo, packaging, adverts and swing tickets. Branding is about fashioning an emotional experience for a target audience, to make them remember the brand and product. Great branding offers acceptance, provides a sense of comfort and challenges the customer, branding is also about finding a way to link the story of a brand with that of your target customer.
The good and bad points about branding is that if you have a very good brand identity such as Nike, everyone will know who you are, what products you sell and what type of brand you are. This is good for advertisement and popularity but as the brand is so popular they are always being tracked and if any bad news comes out about the brand it will be the main focus of the company from then on out.

Examples of good Brand Identity

- Nike

- Adidas

-D and G

-Calvin Klein

-TopShop

Swing Tickets

My swing tickets are inspired by flowers and plants that I have been using as inspiration when designing garments in my FMP project. I have used mount board and brown paper sandwiched together to create the base and have then cut out a flower shape in the middle. I then super glued plastic flowers onto the ticket and printed out my logo and information about the garment onto acetate and stuck these on. The making of the base of my swing ticket went well as everything went on smoothly and I didn't have any problems, however when sticking on the flowers this proved tricky as they had to placed exactly and the glue dries quite quickly. I am very pleased with how they turned out though as they represent my theme perfectly and go well with my garments.

Poster for Catwalk Show

I really love the way this poster I
created sets the theme and mood for my catwalk show, I decided to gather lots of images to do with nature and in my colour pallet to show what my theme is about and an idea of what my final garments will look like.
